14- My Earliest Memory

Day 14: your earliest memory

Hmmmm…. This is a hard one. I have a very good memory, and retain things like a sponge….well, usually. And because of this amazing super power, my memories get jumbled up and mixed up a lot.
However, I believe my earliest memory is getting our pony: Lacey. She was a chestnut color with a flaxen mane and tail. She was a Shetland. She was a good pony for me to have around as a kid: snotty, grouchy, stubborn, obstinant….yep, perfect for me. I have lots of interesting memories with that annoying pony.
My second earliest memory would be when my family took a “vacation” to Red River, NM. A “vacation” was only the stuff of legends in my mind until my family finally took one. A vacation…wow.
It was an awesome trip. I have LOTS of memories from it. We went on a horse trail ride at one point. I was inwardly upset when we got a chestnut horse, because I had my eye on the black tobiano horse, but I got over it, because I was thrilled with the fact that my DAD was going to ride with me. My dad hates horses, and out of all my memories, I can only count him riding a horse 3 times. This was one of those times. It was AWESOME.
We also went Go-Cart racing. That is the only time I’ve gotten to ride a Go-Cart. It was a lot of fun. And ever since that time, I have had my heart set on DRIVING one….a really fast one. Mwhahaha!
But, we spent most of our time fishing for Rainbow Trout. Beautiful fish. Tasty too. I remember the taste of the fresh caught and cooked fish. Amazing…. But I never could understand why mom and dad, after catching the fish, would insist Kris and I stay up on the hill while they took the fish and some sharp knives down to the little river. I just never could understand WHY.
I also remember the cabin we stayed in. The cabin made everything….different. It made the food better. It made the nights more cozy, and sleep sweeter. I don’t know why. But the cabin had something magical about it.
Anyway, those are my two earliest memories. They are good memories.
