Concerning Ground Hogs

So...supposedly Ground Hog day was February 2nd.... and I have no clue if the ground hog saw his shadow or not...I am not sure I really care. I mean, if he sees his shadow, that means there are six weeks more of winter, and if he DOESN'T see his shadow, then there are only 5 more weeks of winter. What is the difference between one week and a silly critter that lives in the ground who is afraid of his shadow???
I don't know either....

Ever since I was a little girl, I have wondered what it would be like if the ground hog saw his shadow, but he thought it was another ground hog?

Would he think it was a trespasser? Would he challenge it to a fight, then chase it scurrying all over the ground until he dropped in exhaustion?

Or would he think it was a lovely lady ground hog? And would he try to impress it, serenade it, and woe it for his own?

He would be very disappointed when he tried to escort her into his tunnel, for she would disappear instantly.

He would live the life of a crazed bachelor, fiercely in love and loyal to his lady love: his shadow.

He would die an old ground hog with no heirs. He would certainly crawl from his death bed, climb out of his tunnel, and turn his back to the setting sun so that he could look upon his lady love in his last moments: his beloved shadow.

Sigh...what a story...But wait! What if I have been mistaken and HE was really a SHE?!

(rewind and start over)

The girl ground hog climbs from her hole in the ground and rubs the dirt from her little brown eyes. She looks around and sees *GASP!* her shadow!

At first she thinks it another lady ground hog, so she presses it for the latest down hole gossip. But when it does not respond, she automatically assumes that it must be a boy ground hog who is very shy.

So she stares at it, and flutters her eye lashes. Then she leans forward and.....she leans forward AND.... screams at him "STALKER" Then she hops back into her hole, and a stupid human watching her thinks that she was scared of her shadow....

Hmmm....

Oh well...

The END!
