Painful Memories

I read this article today and felt that I should share it. It has very good information that is worth taking into consideration for ourselves.

How Painful Memories Affect Our Health
Scripture explains that three organs of our body have the capacity to "think" independently of each other: our brain, our heart, and our reins (digestive system). We are to bring every thought into captivity (2 Corinthians 10:5 "Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ"), we are to guard the thoughts of our heart with all diligence for out of it are the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23 "Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it [are] the issues of life."), and we are to make sure that the thoughts that affect our reins are pleasing to the Lord (Jeremiah 17:10 "I the LORD search the heart, [I] try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, [and] according to the fruit of his doings.").
Researchers have now discovered that our entire intestinal tract is embedded with sheaths of over a hundred million neurotransmitters, which allow it to think and respond independent of our brain (Scientific American, February 12, 2010). Bitterness will cause malfunctioning and not allow proper digestion of our food. Instead, it will putrefy in our intestinal tract and become toxic. This will then go directly into our blood system. No wonder Jesus put such a strong emphasis on forgiving our offenders (Mark 11:25-26 "And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses."). If we harbor bitterness, God will turn us over to the tormentors (Matthew 18:34-35 "And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses."), which include mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual suffering. God gives us the grace to respond to each hurtful experience. However, if we fail to use this grace, there could very easily spring up in us a root of bitterness that will not only damage us, but also poison the lives of others (Hebrews 12:15 "Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble [you], and thereby many be defiled;").

Lets Learn How To Transform Painful Memories
God instructs us to be thankful in all things: "In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you" (1 Thessalonians 5:18). But how can we give thanks for the bad things that happen to us? The answer is found in seeing how God can use even bad things to bring about good results.
No doubt everyone of us has experienced painful events. We also know others who are living with painful memories. Lets learn how to transform painful memories into powerful reminders of God's love and truth.
The book "Why Did God Let It Happen?" offers valuable help toward reaching this goal. I would encourage you to secure a copy of this book and the related booklet: "How to Transform Painful Memories from Broken Relationships".

It is amazing how our health is affected by sin! Our bodies certainly were not created for the stress that sin brings.
However, it is also amazing to see how much God cares for us: He wants us to be healthy and happy. So He gave us these warnings and guidelines not only for the health of our soul, but also for the health of our body. After all, a healthy person can serve Him much more effectively than a person who is sick and does not feel well.
Isn't He amazing?
